Commissioning a new gas appliance is part of the process to make sure it's safe and working properly. The gas fitter will also carry out checks on functionality, including ventilation systems for any leaks or risks associated with them; pressure settings so there are no Technical Faults (TFS).

You need to be sure that any gas fitter is qualified for the job at hand and registered with a professional body, so make sure you check your plumber is a qualified Gas Fitter. This will give you the confidence if any issues arise in the future you are covered if something goes wrong.

WHEN DO YOU NEED A GAS COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE?

You will need a Gas Compliance Certificate for the following circumstances:

  • When the gas in your building is connected for the first time.
  • When a new gas appliance is installed, including stoves, ovens, hot water systems, heaters and other gas appliances.
  • When a gas appliance is being replaced.
  • When the gas in your building is being reconnected.
  • When a new gas pipe is installed.
  • If you notice any leaks or bad smells around your home especially near appliances, this would be classified as an emergency.​
